Hello Everyone!
Following the quick dip into the music video for Railroad, monophreak thought it would be helpful to cover another Imaginando Visual Synthesizer (VS) technique used in our latest music video for Cardboard Cutout. The main video is made up of rough cuts of footage, crazy transitions, smoke effects and all sliced in time with the music.
VS is used as a fantastic light effect by sandwiching the output of a glowing circle and ring between two images, one with an alpha transparency on top. Strings and the kick drum were fed into VS to emphasise different parts of the song. The lights flicker with the music. In FCPX, the VS video had transparency set to linear dodge to blend it in.
The lighting effect wasn’t the smoothest in FPCX due to the black background and linear dodge but this was fixed easily with some additional guassian blur ramped up to 50%.
The TV in the foreground had the background removed and was then positioned over the same image but this time, containing the background.
