As the Boss VF-1 project comes towards a close, I am thinking about my next editor/VST/AU in CTRLR. The LXP-5 has come into my radar and I looked at the SYSEX. It looked straight forward and it gives me a chance to bag some Lexicon experience. As a result, I have created my first mock up for a possible panel:

I plan to capture that Lexicon vibe but put the monophreak spin on the design and look at how to make the workflow work for me inside Logic Pro.
From my panel building experiences, the designs change rapidly as I start to program in the features and at the moment, I have a plan for the Lexicon but I also really like the Lexicon 480 style designs. I’m tempted to go that route but then, the LXP-5 is a different unit with a different vibe. It’s fun to play with this stuff and float some ideas around.
The dark version, to keep the colour scheme consistent:

After analysing the data flow diagram for the algorithm, I decided I wanted to make something really clean and readable in the main panel section. I watched a really good YouTube video about building clear data flow diagrams from here (link) and I made a mock layout as follows:

Clarifty is essential to make the panel work. Due to to landscape nature of the data flow diagram, I will most likely have to adapt the shape of the panel from the Boss controllers.
Combining mock 1 with the algorithm, rotating the boss layout landscape, I get this rather nice looking plugin to control the Lexicon LXP-5:

I will download the Lexicon LXP-1 manual to spec out a frame that will also work for the LXP-5. I read that the sysex is similar so I may be able to read the manual to guestimate build a Lexicon LXP-1 plugin but I’ll wait out Buy Me A Coffees and then can consider this an option for the future. I will write it in a way in which I can adapt it later.
This project will be a lot quicker than the Boss projects because I now have a lot of experience and there are only two alogorithms! That’s a walk in the park considering the VF-1’s 37 algorithms.
As a quick mock-up in CTRLR:

The empty top left space will use a midi matrix that I’ll take from the Boss SE-70 project.
