Waldorf Pulse, Pulse Plus and the Wally Pulsator

Ho hum, while waiting for my studio to be finished (feels like forever), I have been looking at interesting sleeper analogue synths that are still within financial reach from a buymeacoffee pot. The Waldorf Pulse looks like a pretty solid bet. Three analogues osciliators with grit and I have seen some still go for £200 in the UK.

Pending coffees, this looks like another fantastic project to play with and so I downloaded the manual and mocked up a basic template for an editor/plugin which would be easy to slide CCs or SysEx into. I like to play with designs. This will technically work but because I do not own one, not sure how to implement the arpeggiator yet beyond CCs. I want something visual. I set the size to 1280×720 so that the Logic Pro frame will sit nicely round it on a desktop/14inch => screen.

For this project, I updated my ADSR boiler plate code following the really useful information from the manual and after looking at a legacy CTRLR project, thought I’d play with the XY editor and learn something new.

If enough gifts come in and I bag one, I’ll release the CC version first and then extend it later with a librarian.

I’m also interested in other £200 rack mount units to play with. The EMu Proteus 2000 (with a ROM) to play with the Z-Plane features, Kawai K4m (since I think it may be a good fit for my style of music) and the Boss DR-110. I think any of these are contenders for modding and/or panel building. Next, I’ll look at the Kawai K4m in CTRLR and knock up a panel design so if I get my hands on one, can have the bulk of the work ready.

If you have a preference, want to see it built or know of any other £200 rack mount units that are possible in reach for another project, let me know in the comments below.

Please remember before offering coffees, try out my work first. Everyone has a different setup and this is not a business with help and support – its a quest to modernise old gear and keep it out of landfill. I’m very happy to share but cannot offer any promises that it will work for you and support. That being said – check out my buymeacoffee page to get a peak into my reputation.
