Shure M267 (Level-Loc / Devil-Loc Esque) US to UK

For my hybrid setup, I have been looking at gear I like in plugin form and for equivalents. I really like SoundToys and included in this – the Devil Loc which is based on the Shure Level-Loc. Well, I cannot afford a Level-Loc so researched. Turns out, the M267 has some of the properties of the Level-Loc, mainly because this partocular model contains characterful transformers and a limiter than can be smashed. After looking at the high prices of the Shure M267 in the UK, my dream didn’t look like a possibility until I found out these were mass produced and marketed in the US. Next tick – they can operate on battery which is always a good omen for buying gear from America. After further research, I then found out that the later versions without the 30v input at the back, have internal switches which can ,make them run on the UK voltage system without issue. Absolutely brilliant. For clarity, – ot has the same back panel as the one in this manual (link) and I’ll take a photo and upload later on.

So here goes, my story of how I converted a couple for use in the UK. As per usual, this is not a guide – anything you do will be at your risk! It is my documented journey of actions so that I can remember how and what I did. Your mileage may vary.

Okay, so first off, had to pop the hood. To do this, I have to remove the two sides and screws at the bottom at the sides but not the two centre screws towards the back. I watched this video from 9.25 onwards.

After opening, next step involved swapping the fuse. I bought a pack of 10 by Little Fuse from Aliexpress. 50 MA (link) Option – 50MA 10PCS, China Mainland.

I used a cheap chip plucker to easily get under the fuse and lift. My two M267 were different and had slighlty different handling. I removed A and put the new, UK based fuse, into B.

For the second board, it had the UK fuse holder under the US fuse holder. I plucked and replaced.

Next, I needed to flick the voltage switch.

I was stumped initially and lifted the lid on the selector to work out what to do. It quickly became clear that it was very simple. I needed to put a flat head screwdriver inside and bring forward which slide the 230v selector in place.

Finally, reassembled and put on a UK plug. Due to it being a battery operated device and looking at the general voltage, I went for a 3 amp fuse.

and to wire it, I looked up the US colour scheme and translated to the UK.

and voila, I now have a pair of happily working Shure M267 mixers for my sound distortion. After a bit of negotiation, my ‘all in’ price came in at £65.00 for untested power on. It was a bit of a punt but all came good but to be fair – if they hadn’t worked, I was prepared to fix them with my multmeter. I like through hole boards. They are pretty easy to work out where errors occur and update.
